DIY Paper Flower Backdrop

Hello hello!
This is the first post on my blog, and I’m super excited to have it up and running though there is still lots of work that I need to put in. This paper flower backdrop you see pictured here was made for my best friend’s engagement party as a photo booth. I’ve uploaded a tutorial on YouTube showing how I made this. Free flower and leaf templates included later in this post. You can check out the video tutorials here:

Part 2

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Coloured paper or card stock* of your choice
  • Pencil
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun
  • Foam board
  • Floral wire
  • Floral wire cutter
  • Circular object
  • Tape

Tips:
– *Card stock is heavier paper. Coloured paper is usually around 20lbs, but card stock is usually around 70lbs.
– If you know you’re going to make a lot of flowers (mass producing), it’s easier to break down the process: tracing the templates and cutting them all out first, then assembling the flowers, followed by attaching the flowers to your board, then finishing off with the leaves.
– Be very careful with a hot glue gun. I used a pen to hold down the petals while they secured.

Templates:
I made and used these templates myself, so they are not symmetrical or perfect in any sense. But if you like my backdrop then they got the job done 🙂
Flower Templates
I’ve numbered the petals in the order they are to be assembled, along with the number of petals of that size you’ll need.

  1. Thank you for sharing your tutorial and your templates! Most people want to charge for them. Your flowers look beautiful and you make the process seem easy. I want to make some for my daughter’s upcoming wedding shower but I’m going to make some for an upcoming event at work to get practice first.

    1. Hi there! It depends how many sheets are in your bundle. In my video I used a pack of 200 sheets, but I did have a lot left over. I would suggest having at least 100 sheets ready.

  2. Dear Sherry, greetings from India. I was looking for something special to decorate for my daughter’s birthday party as I got bored of balloons. I came across your videos on Youtube. They have helped me a LOT. Thanks a lot for putting the templates for the petals. It has helped me immensely. The amount of help your videos and the templates have done , I don’t think I’ll be able to put it in words. Thank you very much
